What sewing skills are needed to sew the Uno Dress?

Accepted Answer

The Uno Dress is an easy-to-sew pattern. You will need to know:
How to operate your sewing machine
Read a basic pattern
Sew a straight and zig-zag stitch.

The pattern instructions are detailed with illustrations and our sew-along videos walk you through each step.

If you are a beginner sewist, then I recommend making a test garment with inexpensive fabrics first to practice all the techniques needed to sew the dress. I also suggest that beginners use woven fabrics for the first dress or practice sewing with knits before using their final fabric.

If you are an advanced sewist, then you may enjoy challenging yourself with a fabric such as silk or a more lightweight fabric.

What equipment and tools do I need to sew the Uno Dress?

Accepted Answer

Aside from the materials in the sewing project kit, you will need the following equipment and tools:
Sewing Machine
Sharp Scissors
Ruler
Measuring tape. If you do not have one handy you can use a non-stretchy string or fabric and then compare it to a ruler or standard-size item (such as a standard sheet of paper). 
Pins or Clips
Iron/Ironing Board
Optional:
Tracing paper: Tissue paper, medical exam, or parchment paper can be used to trace the paper pattern in your size.
Rotary cutter and cutting mat
Weights to hold the pattern in place while you cut the fabric (you can use anything heavy or you can pin the pattern to the fabric)

Question 4

Which fabrics are best for the Uno Dress?

Accepted Answer

You may use either a woven or knit fabric that is non-sheer and has a good, flowy drape. 
For wovens, select a lightweight fabric such as rayon or polyester. 
For knits, select a medium-weight fabric such as double-brushed polyester, jersey, or polyester/spandex blends.
The key is a good drape! In all the kits, the drape is just right for the Uno Dress.

In addition, the fabric needs to be this width:
54”+ Wide Fabric for sizes XS - L
56”+ Wide Fabric for size XL

What is your return policy?

Accepted Answer

We accept returns on the sewing project kits within 30 days of purchase provided the fabric is not cut or washed and all items are returned. You are responsible for the shipping cost of returns.

Given the immediate availability of the Sewing Pattern PDF we cannot accept returns. No returns are accepted on printed sewing patterns purchased alone.

If you are returning a kit, then $7.99 is deducted from the return for the cost of the PDF pattern. You will continue to have access to the sew-along videos.

We are constantly shopping for new fabrics and adding new kits.

Most of the fabric is available in limited quantities and cannot be restocked.

Why did you start Sew Amusing?

Message from Veronica, Owner of Sew Amusing:

I love to sew but one of the most challenging, time-consuming, and expensive things about sewing is finding the fabric perfectly suited to a sewing pattern. My local fabric stores have a limited selection of apparel fabrics. I would order online and the fabric almost never met my expectations. I ended up with a growing stash of fabric that I could not use. I love fabric but things were getting out of hand and I just want to start sewing sometimes.

As my sewing skills got better, I designed the Uno dress and got so many compliments. I would receive requests to make the dress and that is when it hit me, I could make it easy for others to make the dress for themselves. Sew Amusing was born. 
​
I decided to offer sewing project kits that come with everything you need to make your garment so that you can get started quickly! I strive to find fabric perfect for the garment and provide many photos on the product page to ensure it meets your expectations. I have traveled to textile shows and garment districts to find the fabric offered.

What sizes are available?

The Uno Dress is available in Adults XS - XL and Kids 2T-14. Refer to the Size Charts below.

The top and bottom can be adjusted to fit your unique measurements. If you are a different size on the top vs bottom, then I will guide you on how to adjust the pattern.

I will offer additional sizes in the future, but at this time refer to the size chart for available sizes.
