Crisp cutouts in this top are a unique designer technique.

For my final project in my Designer Techniques class I decided to make a variation on this shirt using the same pattern. I used a technique I learned in class that adds a crisp cutout. The shirt was inspired by this shirt used by the character Nancy from the TV series Stranger Things.
Below is my final version. The cutouts took a very long time to finish because the fabric is slippery and there was lots of ironing to get the lines crisp. I ended up using tape to hold it in place, stitched it and then removed the tape. There was math involved to get the placement of the cut outs symmetrical and in a straight line. There is one square that is slightly off but I have something amusing with any garment. You can probably tell from this photo but when you are moving you can hardly tell. I love the color. I was lucky to get the bright pink fabric for free from a classmate and the black is from Joann Fabrics. To make it more challenging I had to finish it for class the same week I had foot surgery and had to work my foot petal with my left foot. In all, it took me about 8 hours to finish. I love, love, love it and totally worth the time I put into it!

Sew Long,
Veronica
